Echoes of Olja

Before I knew there was a series, there was this painting. And before I knew this painting would change everything, there was a monarch butterfly — singular, unhurried, appearing in the quiet just before something significant shifted in my life. I have learned to pay attention to those moments. They are never loud. They are never rushed. They simply arrive, as if to say: something is coming. Stay open. -

A poppy enlarged from the tiny florals of childhood clothing. A monarch butterfly that has appeared at every threshold of my life. This was the first time I listened — really listened — to the echoes of who I was before I knew how to tell her story.
