The crimson and scarlet palette references the candy's translucent, jewel-like quality while drawing upon red as a recurring color within Russian visual culture. Against it, black creates both contrast and absence, allowing the form to emerge almost as an artifact recovered from darkness. A restrained blue edge introduces the porcelain-inspired visual language that moves throughout \u003cem\u003eEchoes of Olja\u003c\/em\u003e, quietly connecting this individual work to the larger series.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eFor me, the \u003cem\u003epetushok\u003c\/em\u003e carries an additional complexity. It belongs to the culture of my Russian beginnings, yet not to a childhood memory I can clearly recall.
